small trail leading from the Music Room Terrace opens a walkway for guests to enjoy a series of
"outdoor rooms" which are a portion of the Trail Gardens.
Jens Jensen referred to the Trail Gardens as the
"Informal Gardens." Two rooms, although separated by short trails,
were actually side by side, containing an array of plant life along a partially sloped landscape. Stone steps lead the guest out of one Trail Garden to the second. After walking through the second room, the
path then takes the guest along a winding route that eventually opens to a small meadow and onto
the Summer House
of Mrs. Ford's Formal Rose Garden.
Adjacent to the Trail Gardens
and the Formal Rose Garden is the Great Meadow, more popularly know as
"Jensen's Meadow." Separating the residence from the lake, Jensen's Meadow provided a spacious walkway to view the summer solstice, the lake, Skating House, lakeside trails, stone bridge and connecting smaller meadows that lead back,
once again, to the Formal Rose Garden.
