The Skating House - Fair Lane - Henry Ford Estate Henry Ford ice skating

he Skating House sat on the southwest side of the man-made lake, northwest of Jensen's Meadow. Henry Ford loved ice skating and the building provided family and friends a place to keep warm while they enjoyed the ice covered lake. Inside, Ford kept skates of various sizes for guests to use. Searchlights mounted on either side of the house lit the lake for nighttime skating.

Henry Ford's Ice Skates

To the eastside of the lake , positioned into the wooded area near the adjacent meadow , is a cluster of Birch trees. It is believed that Jens Jensen positioned the trees for the Ford family to enjoy as a backdrop view from the porch of the Skating House. During the evening sunsets the golden light glows across the lake reflecting the white bark from the Birch trees.

Today the only remaining evidence of the Skating House is the cement base section of the porch and the cement steps leading onto the lake.
