he Library reflects many aspects of Mr. and Mrs. Ford's lifestyle. It once contained 4,000 books, selected primarily for the appearance of their bindings. Today, many books in the Library are of the hundreds collected by the Fords and kept in other areas of the home.

These  books cover topics such as gardening, landscaping, flowers, religion, and home design. Mr. Ford enjoyed books on business enterprise, engineering, and wildlife, including two sets of the complete works of naturalist and Ford friend, John Burroughs. Also, several books in the collection today  were signed by authors, with

personal comments presented to Mr. and Mrs. Ford. They had a very large collection of the McGuffey Reader,  and  were  considered  to  be   one   of   the   largest holders of these books, which were also used to teach morals and values at the Greenfield Village Schools. 

Mrs. Ford enjoyed reading aloud to her husband from a volume of Charles Dickens' works that she had added to their collection. On   occasion   Mr.   Ford   would   be  found 

studying "The Mechanic's Journal" or following the "Little Orphan Annie" comic strip in the daily newspaper .

The Library's elaborately carved rose and thistle designed plaster ceiling was cut from an English manor house, shipped in pieces and reassembled in this room.
