onstructed in 1915 at a cost of $6,340.00, the Moninger
Greenhouses provided plants, flowers, and vegetables for daily use at Fair Lane. The attached two-story Potting Shed
contained the Gardener's office, from which garden and landscape projects were
governed. This structure had its own boiler system, allowing for regulated steam heat in the various rooms of the Greenhouses. A lower room
housed the backup battery system, used to power the residence in the event of
a powerhouse systems failure.
In 1952 the Greenhouse glass was removed and the wood frame structures were taken down. Today the Potting
Shed is used as the ticket office,
the starting point for tours
at the Henry Ford Estate.
