The Jens Jensen Cascades - Henry Ford Estate Fair Lane

A Virtual Tour - The Cascades

rom the stone terracing effect along the side of the Rouge riverbank, Jens Jensen developed a waterscape unique to Fair Lane. For the ease of walking across the river to the other side, a natural bridge was built with stepping stones at the top of the dam. These stepping stones provided an easy access to the opposite side staircase.

Nieces of Mrs. Ford recall visiting by walking across the stepping stones to the residence. Mrs. Ford would be waiting to serve them cookies and milk in the Sun Porch. Mr. and Mrs. Ford were known for crossing the stepping stones to the other side to walk the trails and meadows.
