or several years before and after 1920, the self-styled "Vagabonds", Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs, participated in a series of motor camping caravans, which have been described as the first notable linking of the automobile with outdoor recreation.

This custom 1922 Lincoln served as the camp kitchen in Henry Ford's fleet of camping cars and, as with other personal cars, was rebuilt using many later model Lincoln parts. This truck is equipped with an 81 horsepower, 60 degree V8 engine. 

In planning his first camping trips Mr. Ford would have a staff person set up tents around the Powerhouse and residence to assure their reliability. Often, tents of varying sizes would be assembled several times to assure all aspects of travel would be in check.  Also,  the  staff  person was one of the

significant individuals to go along on the trips to assure the camping equipment worked smoothly.
