Clara and Henry
Ford in the Alpine Garden |
|
The Alpine Garden has an irrigation system that allowed a waterfall to flow from the top of the garden to a
lily pond below. The garden was designed in 1915 as a native
rock garden, with horizontal banding of rock that matched the strata levels of the Boat House. In later years, approximately 1922-1923, Mrs. Ford redesigned the garden into
the Alpine Garden, with its perspective plants, rockwork and sand paths.
Today the Alpine Garden
contains a naturalistic mix of flowers, reflecting what Mrs. Ford and Jens Jensen would have planted.
